About Vaikom

Located in the Vaikom Taluka of Kottayam District of Kerala State, Vaikom is a small and the oldest town of the district. Vaikom town was the part of Venmalanadu Kingdom and later on it got included in Vadakkumkoor when Venmalanadu Kingdom got divided into two parts, the other part being Thekkumkoor.

It became part of Travancore when Vadakkumkoor was included to Tranvancore in 1742. Vaikom became famous due to its Vaikom Satyagraha Movement.
